The Detroit Lions will have to get used to living without their No. 2 receiver Nate Burleson hand it broke into two after suffering a car accident.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press was the first to report that Burleson will undergo surgery shortly after the Lions released a statement confirming the accident and the injury. Head coach of the Lions, Jim Schwartz, said the team was not planning Burleson put on the list of injured and that "Nate will be back at some point."

Police confirmed to Birkett that "alcohol was not a factor, we used the seat belts and airbags are activated."

Birkett was informed by the authorities that Burleson was in a middle lane when distracted by an item that fell from his front seat. "
